Are you a mid level web designer? I need a suggestion for an affordable and simple shopping cart. Easiest to use, install, maintain, etc. I’m a graphics person and know some HTML and JAVA script coding but not PHP. Used PayPal before, so need something a little more robust. Thanks for reading!

The Shopping Excursion of a Lifetime to Hong Kong

December 5th, 2009
Wolfgang Jaegel asked:

Hong Kong is probably the best shopping destinations in the world that offer various types of goods and services at reasonable costs. Hong Kong is also one of the world’s leading destinations that thrive in shopping mall tourism as well as retail therapy. In fact, Hong Kong is a shoppers’ paradise. For tourists visiting Hong Kong, shopping is not only a process of buying several exciting stuffs but also an important recreational as well as fun filled activity.

Since Hong Kong is a free international port, it keeps abreast with the world’s latest fashion trends and provides opportunities for the tourists to buy custom-free products that have been brought from across the world. No matter you want to shop fashion accessories, apparels, or electronic items, Hong Kong has superb options for all. Discussed further in this article are some of the most popular shopping areas in Hong Kong that are spread across its three major sections such as the Hong Kong Island, Kowloon Peninsula, and New Territories.

One of the most prominent shopping areas in the Hong Kong Island is the Central District, which is also the economic and financial hub of Hong Kong. With a fusion of designer outlets, high-end shopping malls, and old markets, shopping in the Central District is truly an enjoyable experience. For antique collectors, Central District’s such areas as the Cat Street and the Hollywood Road are a great choice, both of which are lined with a number of antique shops.

Likewise, if you want to shop fabrics, souvenirs, handbags, and other fashion accessories at bargain prices, then Des Voeux Road and Queens Road in Central District are some of the popular choices. Further, the Central District is home to the world’s longest outdoor covered escalator system, the Midlevel Escalator and Walkway System.

Another popular shopping area in the island is Causeway Bay, otherwise known as East Point. This significant shopping district is a great place to shop locally made as well as fashionable items from Japan, with an array of Japanese malls, prominent being the 13-storey Sogo Japanese department store, World Trade Center, Fashion Walk, and Lee Gardens.

Apart from these, Causeway Bay also contains such shopping options as Jardine’s Crescent, a popular open market, from where fashionable clothes and items can be bought at great prices. Many of the large scale department stores offer great shopping as well as dining experiences.

Prominent shopping areas in the island also include Admirality, which comes with a great number of shopping malls, departmental stores, upscale hotels, and recreational areas. Few among the shopping options available here are Pacific Place and Queensway Plaza. The Admirality stations link Hong Kong Island’s MTR Line with the Kowloon Tsuen Wan Line.

Among the significant shopping destinations in Kowloon are Mong Kok, which is a great place for shopping electronic items at bargain rates; Tsim Sha Tsui, an area designed especially for those who want to shop high-end fashion accessories; and Kowloon Tong, whose focal point is the mall Festival Walk, with more than 200 shops. When comes to New Territories, perhaps its most prominent shopping area is Tsing Yi, with a number of glitzy shopping malls.

With these scores of options, visitors touring Hong Kong can shop from morning to late night. But, certain important things have to be considered while shopping in Hong Kong. First of all, don’t get swayed away by illegal products. Since Hong Kong consists of a large number of stores selling same products at various prices, a smart shopper must shop around to compare prices and to buy a product at the possible least price. Likewise, it is advisable for the buyers to shop from stores or malls with membership of the Hong Kong Tourist Association.

Additionally, it would be better to shop an electronic item that carries some kind of guarantee or warranty. One can also approach night markets in order to shop several items at exceptionally cheap rates; however, these may not be attached with any kind of guarantee. Above all, do practice bargaining to buy a product in Hong Kong.

In case if you are convinced that you are deceived on purchasing a particular item in Hong Kong, then you could complaint it regarding by contacting the Hong Kong Tourist Association (HKTA) or via calling the Consumer Council Hotline at 2929 2222.

What to look for when mattress shopping?

December 1st, 2009
Christy asked:

I am in the process of re-decorating my bedroom and I am currently matress shopping. I own a waterbed so I’ve never done any mattress shopping before. I have no idea where to begin. Matresses seem so expensive and there are so many to choose from. Where do I start? What should I be looking for? What are some inexpensive brands or inexpensive places to shop?

Top 10 List on Shopping With and for a Purpose!

November 29th, 2009
Vigceo asked:

Top 10 list on Shopping With and For a Purpose

Shopping for many is easy…they head-out to the store…try a few things out…and they either come home with something new or not. Bada-bing bada-boom! Done!  For others is not that simple.  Many shoppers take their time and look through every single item, try everything and anything, compare one store to the other, one price to the other, one quality to the other, etc… and they either come home (much later) with something or they don’t, but yet their minds are still at those stores shopping!

Which ever type of shopper you are, here is my TOP 10 list of shopping “with” and “for” a purpose:

This is the most important one: Leave the Husbands at home! J

List your items.  Before heading out, make a detailed list of what you want/need.  Make sure you go for specifics and not just general. For example, if you are looking for shoes…what type, brand, color, size, etc… This will make sure you are focused in what you want/need to get.

Online first. Take that list and go online to get some prices in the virtual world.  Go to price comparison site such as shopzilla.com. Then, make a fictitious purchase to see if there rare hidden fees.  To do so, add the article in your “shopping cart” and complete your purchase right up to giving your credit card information.  This will allow you to see the full purchase price!

Sign-up.  There are great shopping portals that as you become a free member and join their newsletter, your will receive weekly deals that are out of this world.  Some weekly saving could reduce or give free shipping, promote percentages off (I have seen up to 70% off), give away bonus gifts, etc… And these rebates are only given for online shopping.  You will not see these in the physical stores so join one today! Here is a great one: https://www.goodwillmall.com/membership.php

Shop with purpose. Of course we want the WIIFM (what’s in it for me) when shopping, but what if you could also give back as you shop!  Many stores support causes which help the world. From the fight against cancer to the environment!  So investigate the stores you shop at and find out what they support (if any)…this way you can feel good shopping knowing your money goes towards something other then yourself.  Another way to shop with purpose is to look for an online mall that provides a chance to give back to charities as you purchase.  There are a few good ones out there…so look for them! And some even provide loyalty points and other fun incentives! All benefit…it helps you the shopper and the world by giving!  Check them out!

Set your budget. Many times we tend to go shopping without a budget in mind.  Two things can happen with this…you under-spend (very rarely) or over-spend (most likely)!  This can cause unnecessary stress in your life.  So before heading out, make a budget on the amount that you can and are willing to spend. Stick to it and never go over no matter what. Even if the deal of a century is right in front of your eyes, stick to the budget, there is always a deal of a century around!

Choose your shopping partner wisely. Have you ever gone shopping with someone that keeps telling you “oh, that looks great, you should buy it!”, “wow look at that useless gadget, you should really have one of those”, “did you ever get me anything for my birthday?” yet never buy anything for them selves?  These people are called “nit” (no intention to) shoppers.  They have to intention shop, buy, or even pay a dime when to go out to the stores with you.  They get their fix from YOU shopping and spending money.  STAY AWAY from shopping with these people; you’ll come home with all kind of useless junk!

Gifts. If you are going to buy a gift for someone (spouse, child, friend, etc…), don’t go overboard with the price. Keep it under $30.00 (unless it’s a wedding anniversary or very special event).  Try to organize “gift exchanges” when ever you can…or else it could add up.  Try to give free gift such as YOUR TIME! And used items that are collectibles are always good…so visit those yard sales and flea markets, they offer a vast variety of treasures!

Overall cost and benefits. With the price of gas being so high, you need to start calculating the total cost of your shopping.  Take a look at the distance you need to travel to get to the physical mall.  What does that translate in gas cost to you? Add it to your bill. Then, what is your time worth? Calculate how much you make (income) an hour and multiply that 3 (very conservative) to get a true worth of your time. Now estimate the amount of time you will spend shopping (either online or physically), then multiply your “time” by the amount of time shopping.  Add that to the bill. Will you need to eat out? Add that to the bill. Now take a look at your cost of shopping physically and the cost of shopping online. What are their respective cost and benefits? By comparing both, you will get a clear picture where your next shopping experience will occur. For me, it’s online all the way!

Your new bible. Now that you have my top 10 list on shopping with and for a purpose, please share it with others and make sure to follow it each time you go shopping, it will save you time and MONEY!

A Preface of ’shopping’

November 23rd, 2009
Nor Nan asked:

Shopping is a procedure in which goods and services offered by the retailers are examined with the intent to buy or shop. An activity of purchasing some goods after proper selection is termed as shopping. Basically, it is considered as a leisure activity. In this recreational activity, one visits a range of stores while shopping in search of a desired or a suitable produce to buy. Whereas the activity in which shoppers engage themselves in browsing different products through glass and windows of various shops just for entertainment and enjoyment is window shopping. In this activity, the shoppers only imagine to buy these items without purchasing them in reality, probably to pass their time.

For others, shopping is truly a vexation and an inconvenient task. Shoppers going through extensive hours while waiting in long queues to buy one popular product as specifically observed with initial holiday shoppers and early adopters. Sometimes, shoppers feel ripped-off due to the inability to get one what they have paid for and end up in asking for money back. Sometimes buyers also get trapped in scam. Recently, shopping activity has been identified as an addiction, commonly consigned as shopping addiction, compulsive shopping, formally Oniomania or Shopaholic, these shoppers possess a spontaneous uncontrollable requirement to go for shopping so as to attain high or rush.

Normally, various people called merchants, salesman or vendors who sell wide variety of products in commercial zone, a zone commonly found in every town or city, sell out the products. These days the shopping phenomena is characterized by various shopping malls, flea markets, bazaars or town squares which has large collection of diverse shops at every shopping center or shopping hub.

For the ease of shoppers, every shop sells the particular or selected set of commodities or services to the consumers. The products can be leveled from cheap to extremely expensive. Various retail stores specialize in selling of products related to only one theme including candy shops, bookstores, apparel stores, footwear stores, hardware stores, gift shops, liquor stores, pet stores, hobby stores or supermarkets. The shops either owned by a company or may be a franchising company, which has franchising contracts with the owners of the shops, for instance chain restaurants.

Other kinds of stores are big-box stores, convenience stores, dollar stores, hypermarkets, or department stores that sold off a broad range of products regardless of having any similarity to each other. With the advent of modern technology like telephone, television and Internet, the shopping has become much easier and is often referred as home shopping. Electronic commerce in combination with the business-to-consumer commerce schemes has made the system of home shopping possible for everyone in which a buyer can make purchases via online shopping, mail order and shopping channels, etc. Sometimes ice-cream trucks and peddlers pass through your neighborhood also offer goods and services to you. There are some shopping seasons especially on the eve of Christmas, during which each and every person likes to go shopping for various needs and purposes.
